Spring into Fitness

One thing I’ve noticed with running a mobile personal training business is that spring brings everyone out and they feel ready to move again.  If winter slowed you down a bit that’s perfectly normal and spring is the ideal time to ease back into movement without a dramatic fitness overhaul.

Kingston and the Channel have plenty of amazing outdoor spaces perfect for getting moving.  Kingborough Council has installed exercise stations at parks like Kettering Oval and Rotary Centennial Park in Kingston Beach. These are free, easily accessible and great for adding strength work to your walks. Plus, you’ll look like the “fun fit person” at the park.

According to the official Australian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines, aim for most days of movement, two or more strength sessions per week and 30 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous cardio most days. These recommendations are linked to reduced risk of chronic disease, improved mental health, better mobility and healthier ageing.

Start small, start outdoors and start somewhere you enjoy. For example, the Kettering Point to Trial Bay Track is a gentle walk along the shoreline with stunning views of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island. Alternatively, walk or jogs along Kingston Beach and incorporate some strength exercises using the equipment at Rotary Centennial Park.

If you need support, accountability or someone to remind you you can do one more rep, I can help you. I bring all the equipment to you – whether it’s your home or your favourite park.

To get started:

  • Find activities you enjoy – walking, circuits or beach walks/jogs.
  • Use body weight or outdoor equipment – it’s free and surprisingly effective.
  • Mix scenery with exercise – beaches, bush tracks, playgrounds or open parks.
  • Set small goals – 10 minutes a day or three sessions a week and increase as you get fitter and stronger.
  • Get support – accountability makes everything easier.

So, whether it’s a brisk walk, resistance training, stretching, or finding ways to avoid sitting too much, you’re on your way to a healthier and happier lifestyle. Get out there, enjoy the process, and make exercise a regular part of your routine. Your body and mind will thank you.
