It’s a great time of the year for socialising but if you let it get out of control you could derail all the hard work you put in during the year. By the time Christmas and the new year are over you can have 4 to 6 weeks of continuous over-indulging, which cannot be good for your waistline.

Here are a few tips to help avoid seeing the new year and not being able to fit in your clothes anymore.

You cannot miss any of your training sessions. In fact, you should be doing more sessions to make up for for the extra alcohol and bad food you will be consuming. Aim to do some sort of activity every day even if it’s just walking for 30 minutes.

Choose carefully at functions and use the 5 canapé rule – 5 canapés equal a full meal in terms of the number of kilojoules consumed.

Set yourself an alcohol limit – just because the drinks are free it doesn’t mean you have to be carried home. Keep in mind that 30 minutes of walking will burn off one Corona or a glass of champagne.

Eat a lighter lunch (soup or salad) if you are going out at night.

Don’t go to parties hungry. Fill your stomach with healthy snacks (fruit, handful of nuts) and lots of water before you go and you’ll less likely to over-indulge on high fat pastries, chips and dips.

Eat slowly. By taking your time to enjoy your food, you are less likely to overeat.

Drink more water to counter the effects of alcohol on your body.

Don’t let the celebrations run well into January, otherwise February will be here and the Silly Season excess baggage will be a lot harder to shift for the rest of next year.

Home | Who We Are | What We Do | Resources | Contact Us

With less than a month till Christmas, the Silly Season has already started for some.
